[P1Harmony] The first full-length album with a variety of attractive points, <Killin't It> | M COUNTDOWN INTERVIEW

2024.02.15

P1Harmony released their first full album [Killin' It] about three years after their debut. The album boasts a collection of 10 tracks, including the 1990s hip-hop infused title track ‘Killin’ It,’ a mid-tempo ballad named ‘Love Story,’ the minimal bassline-highlighted ‘2Nite,’ and ‘I See U,’ a song reflecting their affection towards their fans. Each track in the album offers unique appeal points, providing an enjoyable listening experience. Following the album's release on February 5th, P1Harmony has just begun their promotional activities. We, M Countdown Magazine, had the opportunity to catch up with them.

Welcome, P1Harmony! Congratulations on the release of your first full album since your debut. How are you feeling right now?

KEEHO: Ever since we debuted, we've wondered when we could release a full album. Now that it's finally out, the feeling is a mix of joy and anticipation. We've put in extra effort because it's a full album, and we're hopeful for everyone's love and support.

THEO: It's our first time showing a full album, and we were quite worried, but it seems like our fandom, P1ece, really likes it, which makes me happy as well.

JIUNG: Thanks to our fandom, P1ece, we're able to embrace this significant chapter of a full album, and I'm very happy that we can show and let you hear various stages and songs.

INTAK: Finally having our first full album makes me feel so good. Each of us has put a lot of effort into this album, so I hope more people will love and listen to it.

SOUL: The release of our full album feels almost magical, and we aim to showcase an even more impressive side of P1Harmony in light of this.

JONGSEOB: The pride in finally unveiling our full album is immense, coupled with a great sense of anticipation for the upcoming performances.

What is the essence of your new album, [Killin' It]? Could you share how it stands apart from your earlier mini albums, or the approach you took in its creation?

JIUNG: ‘Killin' It,’ our most recent album, encapsulates the message that P1Harmony is 'the true heroes,' a declaration made after navigating through our DISHARMONY and HARMONY series towards genuine harmony.

Being our inaugural full-length album, a notable difference from our mini albums is the increased number of tracks. To ensure we performed each song well, we dedicated ourselves even more to practice.

Your visuals in the music video are really intense. The hair colors and flashy accessories are quite striking. Was there a specific concept you aimed for?

KEEHO: The concept was based on the story of ‘forgotten superheroes,’ and we wanted to incorporate our mischievous side as much as possible. With the determination to show the world exactly how ‘snatched’ of superheroes we are, we opted for more intense hair colors and flashy accessories.

The retro hip-hop vibe of your title track ‘Killin’ It’ is really captivating. Could you tell us more about the song?

INTAK: Our title track ‘Killin’ It’ stands out with its minimal track structure and catchy synth sounds, complemented by 808 bass and a well-structured rap flow, reminiscent of 90s hip-hop! You can see a unique composition filled with P1Harmony's own flair!

Your performance for ‘Killin’ It’ stands out, especially the gesture that resembles drawing horns above your head. Could you explain its significance?

SOUL: We call that move the Hero Peace. It’s designed to be performed as if you’re embodying a hero, which really brings out its coolness.

It was interesting to see how you expressed your unique musical confidence through the word ‘snatched(때깔)’. Do you have any tips for showcasing your own ‘snatched’ style in everyday life?

KEEHO: Embracing and knowing oneself is crucial to highlight your unique ‘snatched’ essence. It empowers you to stand firm against the opinions of others and proudly showcase what you love.

THEO: For me, my music embodies my unique ‘snatched’ flair, which is why I believe in taking care of my voice.

JIUNG: I reckon that an ‘snatched’ inner quality is key. Continually reminding yourself of the person you aspire to be and the attitude you wish to adopt can help in maintaining your distinct ‘snatched’ vibe.

INTAK: Loving and immersing yourself in your passions can naturally reveal your ‘snatched’ style in day-to-day life, no matter where you are.

SOUL: Dedicating yourself to what you think is stylish can carve out your personalized ‘snatched’ identity.

JONGSEOB: Regularly exploring your own style helps in discovering the ‘snatched’ look that best fits you. For instance, in the case of clothing, it's crucial to try on and experiment with a variety of garments.

We heard that every member of P1Harmony took part in creating the tracks for this album. Could each of you share your favorite song from the album?

KEEHO: My favorite is ‘Late Night Calls’!

THEO: For me, ‘Love Story’ stands out the most. It was our first attempt at filling a verse entirely with rap, and I believe the members really excelled in their rap writing.

JIUNG: I like ‘I See U’. It’s a song we put a lot of effort into, especially conveying the emotion of making eye contact and connecting with the fans during performances, which makes it particularly dear to me.

INTAK: I’m drawn to ‘Street Star’! It’s a personal favorite for its captivating mood and powerful sound.

SOUL: I like both ‘Street Star’ and ‘Love Story’.

JONGSEOB: My favorite is ‘Late Night Calls’.

We’d like to hear from JONGSEOB, who had a hand in lyric writing for the title track and the entire album. How do you find inspiration for your lyrics? And is there a lyric you’ve written that remains particularly meaningful to you?

JONGSEOB: When working on the album, I often start by defining keywords through mind mapping from the song's title and write from there. I also draw a lot of inspiration from movies and books. Among the lyrics I've written, “You give me a reason to move forward” from ‘Better Together’ has stayed with me the longest.

For JIUNG, INTAK, JONGSEOB, KEEHO, who all contributed to the fansong ‘I See U,’ what was the intended message for your fans with this track?

KEEHO: My aim was to communicate that P1Harmony always has its sights set on our fandom, P1ece, emphasizing that we need to journey together. I diligently worked to infuse the song with a sweet vibe through its melody.

JIUNG: I wanted to best convey our gratitude to the fans who are always by our side, watching over and supporting us.

INTAK: It was important for me to show that, similar to how our fans gaze upon us with warmth, we gaze back with equal fondness. I wanted to share the sentiment that P1ece always holds a special place in our hearts.

JONGSEOB: Personally, I wanted to talk about the excitement of making eye contact and the emotions that can be understood through eyes rather than words. So, I wrote the lyrics in a way that scenes could be visualized when listening to them. I think it also brought to mind many moments of communicating with our fans through eye contact on stage.

We'd love to hear about the behind-the-scenes from your recent world tour. It was your second time touring internationally; could you share any moments that have stuck with you?

THEO: The final concert stands out to me the most. It seemed like a fun wrap-up to our year-long tour, and I remember feeling extra energized and enjoying myself more that day.

What have been the most memorable and happiest moments for you since making your debut?

KEEHO: There are so many, but if I had to choose, it would be our first solo concert. It's particularly memorable and enjoyable because it was a space created just for P1Harmony and P1ece.

THEO: My happiest times are when all the members are together on stage.

JIUNG: I'm happiest during concerts. Performing on stage is one of the happiest moments, and creating happy memories with our fans always stands out as the most joyful and memorable.

INTAK: For me, it would be the tours. I think the moments spent performing are the happiest!

SOUL: I hope this happiness lasts forever. Eating with the members, having meals with my family, and dancing on stage are moments of happiness for me.

JONGSEOB: Every moment spent on stage brings me happiness. It’s been my dream, and I wish to continue being there as long as I can.

What ambitions do you have for your latest album, [Killin' It]?

KEEHO: My absolute goal is to win first place on a music show. We've prepared so hard for this, and I really want us to be recognized for our efforts.

JONGSEOB: Our aim with this album is to show more people the type of music P1Harmony creates and how passionate we are about our performances. Also, it would be great if we could experience growth once more through this album.

Lastly, could you share a message for your fandom, P1ece, and the readers of M Countdown Magazine?

JIUNG: Our ability to release a full album has been made possible thanks to the genuine care and encouragement from our fans, P1ece, and the readers of M Countdown Magazine. We deeply appreciate your support and commit to repaying you with even better music and performances from P1Harmony.
