In response to the diversification of girl groups who created their own fictional world and brought psychoanalysis, STAYC competed with brevity. ‘ASAP’, the joint work of the catcy song by the songwriting team Black Eyed Pilseung, cool vocals and an intuitive message to back it up, quickly permeated the scene as it led a new entertainment. The girls, who faithfully kept the basics of K-pop, succeeded in expanding their field of activity with their debut single album ‘Poppy’ in Japan and returned to Korea. The new song ‘Teddy Bear’, which once again sparked the challenge craze, recharges the refreshing feeling of satisfaction and spreads a different charm with a slight change of tactics.
The distribution of parts that is cl02rly different from before digs into the ears freshly. As much as it is an upbeat track between pop punk and dance-pop, the husky-voiced ISA takes over the song’s beginning and chorus, and SIEUN ho has been in charge of the chorus with a strong vocal volume and a unique voice, takes over the rap this time and evokes the atmosphere differently. Even in an unfamiliar formation, each one cleverly prepared a section where they would stand out, and sound effects such as the post-chorus with synthesizers and scratch sounds in between adequately support the rear. It is a neat changeup that clearly emphasizes the changes but maintains the existing order.
The grounds for the circumvention can be found in the message of shooting back in a roundabout way. The lyrics, which are themed around a cute doll placed at a child’s bedside, proudly demand that you be a teddy bear who only watches saying nothing, telling “Sit comfortably, don’t say any unnecessary word,” and “be buttons only when I want to”, contrary to its typical image. A bold request hidden in a cozy cotton makes the listener laugh cheerfully and at the same time induces him/her to be gently persuaded. To someone’s concern about a consistent approach, STAYC responded tactfully by turning slightly while maintaining its straight color as it is.
