2024.04.18

The group that inspires admiration and applause, WOOAH, has released their new album ‘BLUSH.’ After a hiatus of one year and five months, how exciting will their music sound? WOOAH, with voices brimming with enthusiasm, portrays an active and courageous attitude towards love. Their addictive melodies layered over minimalistic sounds have already captured the attention of many fans. We are thrilled to share an interview with WOOAH in M COUNTDOWN Magazine.

Congratulations on your comeback after one year and five months! First, please greet the readers of M COUNTDOWN Magazine!

NANA : Hello, this is NANA from WOOAH. 💗 We finally made a comeback after a year and five months! You must have been waiting for so long, right?! Missed you!!

It was the longest hiatus since your debut. How have you been spending your time during the break?

MINSEO : While reviewing our past activities, I meticulously monitored what was lacking and practiced to further upgrade my dancing and singing skills.

Listening to the new song ‘BLUSH’ reminded me of the excitement I felt when I first fell in love at school. Could you please explain the song?

WOOYEON : ‘BLUSH’ is a song that expresses the feelings of a girl who is shy and excited about her approaching love, but is also actively courageous, all presented with WOOAH’s unique charm.

The new song has a great lineup, especially Ryan S. Jhun, known for producing many K-pop hits. Can you share any behind-the-scenes stories from working together?

NANA : It was the first time working together as WOOAH, and I remember how grateful I was for the direction he provided, which truly captured our unique charm.

The point choreography to the word ‘BLUSH’ was impressive. The BLUSH Challenge is starting to gain attention. Do you have any tips for the dance challenge?

LUCY : If you dance smoothly but emphasize the key points with varying intensity and maintain a bright expression, you’ll be able to excel in the challenge!

I’m curious about the moments that made WOOAH ‘BLUSH’ since their debut. Could you share the most memorable stages or memories?

WOOYEON : The moment I first heard the cheers of our fandom, wow!, during ‘Danger’ left the most memorable and exhilarating impression. Since our debut, there haven’t been many stages with our fans, so I always felt a sense of regret. But hearing the awaited voices and realizing that we share the same emotions, filled me with happiness and created unforgettable memories.

SORA : When I had my first fan signing!! I felt very shy because it was my first time talking to fans up close. Also, fans were so good at making jokes and praises, so I remember feeling shy the whole time because I wasn’t used to the situation.

The music video is another aspect that truly distinguishes this single. I admired the styling of the members wearing bandanas and short crop tops, as well as the performance in the video. Do you have any behind-the-scenes stories from the music video shoot?

LUCY : In the middle of the music video, there’s a scene where I crumple a cup like a piece of paper, but the cup turned out to be stiffer than expected, so it didn’t crumple easily. (Smiles) It took several takes to get it right, and you can definitely see the concentration I put into my facial expressions. It’s a funny behind-the-scenes story about me.

MINSEO : There were a lot of group dance scenes during this music video shoot. So I was physically exhausted, but I really appreciated how the members raised each other’s energy.

So far, I think ‘Rollercoaster’ is the song that best shows off WOOAH’s charm. I’m curious about each member’s favorite from songs you’ve released.

NANA : My favorite songs are ‘Bad Girl’ and ‘Purple,’ and I feel like ‘BLUSH’ is threatening to take that spot with its upcoming comeback. (Laughs)

WOOYEON : I love all of them, but I think I’m a little bit more attracted to ‘Purple’ because it’s my favorite color, and I think it’s a song that really captures our vibe.

SORA : I love all the songs, so it always depends on my mood that day, but right now I’m going to go with ‘Catch the Stars.’

LUCY : I love the song ‘Danger’ the most! It’s a track that gets me hyped up even more when dancing on stage, and I think our members’ charms shine even brighter in ‘Danger’!

MINSEO : I can’t really pick a favorite song, but I would say ‘Purple’! I think the members’ charms were really well shown in their vocal tones and in the music video! Many people think of a bouncy image when they think of WOOAH and I feel like ‘Purple’ suited us so well back then. It’s still my favorite song.

I really love the clear and pure voices of the members, and I think that’s something that has been highlighted in BLUSH. Are there any artists that have influenced you, or musicians that you admire and aspire to be like?

SORA : TWICE sunbaenim! Every comeback, they show different charms, and I really want to emulate this aspect. I admire them!

MINSEO : For me, it’s BLACKPINK sunbaenim! Watching their performances, I’m truly amazed by their stage presence! Also, their singing, rapping, dancing, etc., seem so perfect. I believe they each have their own unique color in many aspects, and when those elements come together, they create the best team better than anyone else.

You’re approaching the fifth year of your career. Do you feel like there’s a point where you get greedy musically, whether it’s writing, composing, or performing? Is there any particular area you’d like to try someday?

NANA : Since I love dancing so much, I would love to do more research and work on creating a story or choreography for the whole performance.

Do you have any goals as WOOAH this time?

WOOYEON : 1st place on music shows!!

Please describe the charm of the new song ‘BLUSH’ in one line!

NANA : It’s an addictive song that you can’t stop thinking about.

WOOYEON : I think it’s like a cherry blossom making the audience, listening and watching the stage, feel uplifted~.

SORA : Love coming to me.💗

LUCY : You can’t get it out of your head because of its addictive melody!

MINSEO : The song has a fluttering and shy feeling, but when you see it on stage, you’ll see a different side of ‘BLUSH’ with even more energy!

Lastly, could you say a word to the fandom, wow!, who has been waiting for the comeback?

NANA : Thank you so much for waiting for us and believing in us for a long time. I hope you’ll stay with us until the end because there’s so much more to come. Love you.💗
